Antalya Airport AYT Car Hire from £14/day – T1 & T2 Pickup, Prices and Driving Tips

Landing at Antalya Airport (AYT) for Lara, Belek, Side, Kemer or Alanya? A hire car saves £80-£120 in return resort transfers and gives you freedom to visit Kursunlu Waterfalls, Perge ancient city, Aspendos Theatre and the Taurus Mountains on your own schedule. VPS Rental Cars compares 800+ live prices at AYT so you see the real GBP total with CDW and theft protection included, not a headline rate that doubles at the desk with hidden insurance.

Antalya Airport has two international terminals. UK charter and scheduled flights from Manchester, Gatwick and Birmingham mostly land in T2 in summer, T1 in winter. Both terminals have car hire counters in arrivals, but almost all cars are parked off-airport in the main depot area at Güzelyurt Mahallesi, Aksu, 3 minutes away. You get Meet & Greet service. A driver waits with your name board outside the arrivals exit and shuttles you to the depot. This is standard for Antalya and quicker than queuing at an on-airport desk. Allow 20 minutes from landing to driving away. Have your UK photocard licence, credit card for the deposit block and your VPS voucher ready. The highest rated supplier at AYT is Sixt EMEA Franchise at 8.3/10 for clean cars and fast check-out. The cheapest is usually local Turkish brands – Circular with Citroen C3 from £15/day, York from £14/day and Pandora Car Hire with Dacia Jogger 7-seaters from £47/day. International brands like Hertz from £20/day and Avis from £39/day are also at AYT.

Prices change daily but this is what to budget in GBP for Antalya. Economy such as Renault Clio or Citroen C3, manual, 5 doors, A/C, is from £14 to £18 per day in low season and £28 to £35 per day in July and August. Perfect for two people, easy to park in Kaleiçi Old Town and Lara, lowest fuel cost. Compact such as VW Golf, Seat Leon, Opel Astra is from £18 to £28 per day. This is our most booked size in Antalya. Boot space for two large suitcases and two cabin bags, comfortable for the long D400 coastal road to Side and Alanya. No-excess or zero-deductible options start from £23 per day and remove the large excess block. Intermediate SUV such as Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 3008 or Seat Ateca is from £39 to £59 per day low season and £55 to £75 per day high season. Higher driving position, bigger boot, better for Belek golf clubs where you need space for bags and for the hillier, winding road west to Kemer and Kas. Estate such as VW Passat Estate is from £52 per day and is ideal for families with three to four large cases flying into AYT. 7-seater such as Dacia Jogger is from £47 per day. Only about 10% of the Antalya fleet is 7-seaters, so they sell out first for Lara Beach family hotels in school holidays – book early.

Deposit is the most important part of Antalya car hire. Turkey blocks £260 to £1,050 on your credit card at pickup, depending on car group. This is not a charge, it is a pre-authorisation for the excess. VPS filters low-deposit options from £220 equivalent. If you only have a debit card, choose super cover or premium cover at around £39 per day total – this reduces the block to zero and includes zero excess. Without super cover, expect an excess of £800 to £1,200 if you damage the car. All our free cancellation deals start from £15 per day and allow cancellation up to 48 hours before pickup. Zero-excess is £6 to £10 per day extra but saves the large hold on your card.

Driving in Antalya is straightforward. The main road is the D400 which runs the entire Turkish Riviera. Lara Beach is 15 minutes from AYT, Kundu 20 minutes, Belek 30 minutes, Side 60 minutes, Kemer 50 minutes west, Alanya 90 minutes east. All well signed in English and Turkish. New sections of motorway around Antalya use HGS electronic toll tags. Almost all rentals now include the HGS tag in the windscreen – you just pay what you use at return. For a week around Antalya resorts expect £3 to £8 in tolls. Fuel is around 40-45 TL per litre – fill on the D400 before you return to the airport, as stations right at AYT charge more. Parking in Kaleiçi Old Town is tight and mostly pedestrian – use the paid public car parks at £1 to £2 per hour near Hadrian's Gate. Hotels in Lara and Belek offer free guest parking. In Side, park outside the old town walls and walk to the Temple of Apollo.

Licence rules. UK photocard driving licence is valid for tourists up to 90 days in Turkey. Police checkpoints are common near Kundu and on the D400 to Alanya – they sometimes ask for a 1968 International Driving Permit as well as your UK licence. Get the IDP from any Post Office for £5.50 before you fly – it takes 5 minutes.

Can you drive long distance from Antalya? Yes. Pamukkale is 4.5 hours, Cappadocia is 550km and about 7 hours via Konya – choose unlimited mileage and diesel for £3 to £5 per day extra for economy. You cannot take an Antalya hire car on a ferry to Greek islands or to Northern Cyprus. One-way to Dalaman or Bodrum is possible from £45 one-way fee.
